The original recipe was created by a local woman living high in the mountains of Racha, village Shkmeri.
Aleqsandrouli grape varietal is from Western Georgia , Racha- Lechkhumi. This grape is drought-resistant and can grow well on various types of soils but it has absolutely different qualities and taste in this part of Georgia. Aleqsandrouli and Mujuretuli varietals together are used for making semi-sweet red wine Khvanchkara - very popular in Georgia.
The Sun, rising from the East, peaks over the mountainous range of Racha. Nestled on the Southern slope of the mountains, on the right bank of the Rioni river, sits the vineyard of Itsis Marani. Each grape receives sunlight fully during the day. Rainfall each year is adequate for natural irrigation and the lime and sandy soils welcome the precipitation. The soil absorbs excess heat in the day and cools quickly at night. These elements of Terroir create a type of wine which has no comparison to any other viticulture regions of Georgia.
Aleqsandreuli was a young boy with high energy and vivid imagination. He and his mother lived in a small village high in a mountains of Racha. The village was attacked by barbarians and the villagers were scattered. His mother sacrificed herself to save him from the invasion. He fled deep into the mountains. The treacherous territory conditioned him to be strong and independent. He swore to himself that one day he would return and avenge his mothers death and restore Racha to it's former glory.

Itsis Marani (named after the village) was established by the Gurgenidze Family over 100 years ago. Today, the winery is run by Vladimer Gurgenidze, a native of Racha, who has more than 30 years of experience in viticulture and winemaking. The pieces of Qvevri found in the yard are a testament to the history of this small family winery.
Last year, do to increased demand, Itsis Marani updated and reconstructed their cellar and Qvevris. After reconstruction, they decided to adopted the name Bimbili which in Racha means grape. For them "Bimbili" means that every grape from Itsis Marani is selected from Racha on purpose and that every grape is important.
This family establishment, although growing to meet demands, remains close to their family traditions and values when it comes to winemaking. Now, they produce six different wines exclusively from Racha grape varietals.
For each bottle of Aleqsandreuli sold, Village Vines donates a percent of the profits to a charitable cause selected by the winemaker.
Bimbili has chosen to support single mothers.
